What folk tradition(s) or traditional art(s) do you practice?
Making fishing nets of all kinds by hand.
How did you learn those traditions?
Learned from my father and oldest brother.
Why is it important to maintain folk traditions?
To me it is important to maintain folk traditions because in my case, I'm one of just a few in what I do. Once it's gone it will be gone.
How did you first get involved with the Florida Folklife Program?
I was interviewed and requested to participate by Amanda Hardeman Griffis.
What Florida Folklife Program projects have you participated in and/or what folklife awards have you received?
I was Master Artist in the Apprenticeship Program 2015/16. I received grants in my name to St. Augustine Lighthouse. I received the Folk Heritage Award in 2019.
How has the Florida Folklife Program benefited you or what value does the program have?
I'm ever grateful to Amanda Griffis and the Florida Folklife Program for getting me involved. It has gotten me involved in a way I never would have on my own. The value of the Folklife Program simply cannot be measured, nothing better.
