Considering History: A Citizen’s Guide to Federal Undertakings and the Section 106 Process

What happens if a historic structure is in the path of a new road? What if a developer wants to build on a site that has archaeological artifacts or significance? If these projects include federal funds or require federal permitting, they may be considered federal undertakings, and may be subject to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. This webinar will share the basics of the Section 106 process and how it affects federal agency decisions related to historic properties. The webinar will provide an overview of Section 106’s history, the responsibilities it creates for federal agencies, and what role the general public plays in the process.
