Rachelle (Riki) Saltzman

Photo of Ricki Saltzman working on a computerDr. Rachelle (Riki) Saltzman is the Executive Director of the Oregon Folklife Network where she coordinates fieldwork projects, creates public programming and exhibits, and works with communities, organizations, and Tribes to sponsor activities that increase public awareness of the significance of Oregon’s living cultural heritage. She was the former Folklife Coordinator for the Iowa Folklife Program. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas in Austin. In addition to editing the 1991 publication, Readings for the Introduction to Folklore, she contributed to the book Culinary Traditions (2003) and the PBS-Smithsonian Institute television documentary Mississippi: River of Song (1993). While employed by the Florida Folklife Program from 1988 - 1991, Saltzman worked on several projects including the Florida Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program, Rural Folklife Days, and the Forest Industries survey (with fellow folklorist Jan Rosenberg). She also conducted much of the field research for the Folklife Areas of the Florida Folk Festival.
