Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee Recognizes Florida Main Street Day

Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee announced today, March 23, as this year’s Florida Main Street Day.

“I am happy to recognize this year’s Florida Main Street Day,” said Secretary Lee. “Our Main Street communities have shown significant dedication and perseverance. In a challenging year for small businesses, Main Street communities have shown tenacity as evidenced by the reporting of net positive businesses and jobs created. The support they provided to their small businesses over the past year is commendable and I thank them for their hard work.”

The Florida Main Street program was founded in 1985 with only five pilot communities, all of which are still active participants in the program today. Over the past 36 years, Florida Main Street has offered assistance to more than 100 communities. The program provides technical assistance and training to participating communities to help maintain and revitalize Florida’s historic downtowns through economic development and preservation.

In 2020, Florida Main Street’s active programs reported positive net growth. The communities reported more than $55,159,098 public and $49,266,348 private investments. Additionally, the Main Street districts welcomed 191 net new businesses, 772 net new jobs and more than 49,110 volunteer hours. We also accepted 5 new communities to our program.
