Florida Department of State and United Arts of Central Florida Team Up to Highlight the Economic Impact of Arts and Culture

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –

Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that the Florida Department of State’s Division of Cultural Affairs is partnering with United Arts of Central Florida to present the Arts and Economic Prosperity 5 tour at Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. The meeting will highlight the recent results of Americans for the Arts’ latest study, which illustrates a $4.68 billion statewide economic impact of Florida’s diverse arts and culture industry, and discuss how to use these results to help create a thriving arts and culture community at the local level.

“Americans for the Arts’ latest study, Arts and Economic Prosperity 5, illustrates the enormous impact that arts and culture have on our state’s economy,” said Secretary Detzner. “With 132,366 jobs supported and $492.3 million in local and state government revenue generated, arts and culture help make Florida a great place to live, work and play. We are proud to partner with United Arts of Central Florida to celebrate and spread the word about the importance of not-for-profit arts and culture.”

The meeting will focus on sharing methods and strategies for organizations to best use the results of the Arts and Economic Prosperity 5 study in their own work and advocacy efforts, as well as highlighting successful local programs and organizations. The agenda is as follows:

9:15 – 9:45 a.m.         Overview of the Arts and Economic Prosperity 5 study

9:45 – 10:00 a.m.       Moderated Question and Answer

10:15 – 11:30 am       Panel Discussion with Local Cultural Organizations moderated by United Arts  of Central Florida President and CEO Flora Maria Garcia

The Arts and Economic Prosperity 5 tour has already made a stop in Jacksonville, with meetings in Tallahassee and Pensacola planned for January and March, respectively.
