MEDIA ADVISORY: Division of Historical Resources Announces Dozier Task Force Meeting Schedule

MARIANNA, Fla. –

 

 The Division of Historical Resources today announced the meeting schedule for the Dozier Task Force. The Dozier Task Force will hold meetings on Wednesday, August 3 and Friday, August 19 in Marianna, Fla.

Pursuant to Ch. 2016-163, Laws of Florida, the Dozier Task Fore was established to submit recommendations regarding the creation and maintenance of a memorial honoring the children who lived and died at the former Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys located in Marianna, Fla. The task force is also charged with recommending the location of a site for the re-interment of unidentified or unclaimed remains that were part of a forensic investigation conducted by the University of South Florida at the school.

According to Ch. 2016-163, Laws of Florida, the Department of State is responsible for providing administrative support to the task force, which includes facilitating meetings. The task force must submit its recommendations to the Department of State, Governor and Cabinet, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House, the Minority Leader of the Senate and the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives by October 1, 2016.

AGENDA:     

The task force’s first meeting on Wednesday, August 3, will begin with a vote by task force members to approve an agenda.

The meeting on August 3 will be an organizational meeting focused on reviewing the task force’s responsibilities under the law.

The meeting on August 19 will include an opportunity for public comment. At this meeting, the task force members will also vote on their recommendations to be included in the final report to the Legislature.
