The 32nd Annual Capital City Quilt Show: Road to Florida
Tallahassee, Florida –
Secretary of State Ken Detzner is pleased to announce the opening of the 32nd Annual Capital City Quilt Show: Road to Florida, September 11 through November 3 at the Museum of Florida History. An opening reception will be held at the Museum of Florida History on September 10 at 5:30 on and will feature a presentation by Florida quilt historian Dr. Charlotte Williams, author of Florida Quilts. The Museum hosts this exhibit in partnership with Quilters Unlimited of Tallahassee.
"It is a great pleasure to bring these magnificent pieces of art to Florida’s Capital City for the 32nd year," said Secretary Detzner. "This show will display more than 100 hand-crafted and machine-made quilts and wall hangings."
Traditional components of the quilt show include awards chosen by the members of Quilters Unlimited, a Visitor’s Choice Award selected by the public, and a silent auction. Among the quilts on display is a historic piece by long-time Gainesville master quiltmaker and instructor Anna Lupkiewicz.Created in 1981, Cosmic Cotillion features a mosaic pattern saturated with robust golds and deep reds that bring out the subtle greens and vibrant blues surrounding them. The work is a visual blending of Lupkiewicz’s Ukrainian and American heritage.
