MEDIA ADVISORY: Press Preview for New Temporary Exhibit from Spain at the Museum of Florida History

Tallahassee, Florida –

Secretary of State Ken Detzner invites the media to a press preview of the temporary exhibit, Imagining La Florida: Ponce de León and the Quest for the Fountain of Youth, at the Museum of Florida History on November 13th at 4:00 p.m.

This highly interactive exhibit is divided into four distinct sections and starts in a replica Spanish galleon that explores Florida history from the preparation of Juan Ponce de León’s voyage from Spain to the establishment of Fort Mose in 1739. It concludes with an interactive fountain projection where visitors discover the truth about one of the most enduring foundation myths in U.S. history, Juan Ponce de León’s quest for the fountain of youth.

Organized by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) of Spain and the Spain-Florida Foundation and curated by Dr. J. Michael Francis, the exhibit is a collaboration of the Spanish Embassy in Washington D.C., and the Spanish Consulate in Miami where it has been on display. It will be available to the public free of charge until February 23, 2014, at the Museum of Florida History and then return to Spain. For more information on the exhibit, see press release here.
