Like many libraries, Calhoun County Public Library is always looking ahead to see how they can better serve their communities, especially those in disadvantaged areas.

At the main library in Blountstown, staff help patrons recoup prescription costs and set up medical appointments. This service is made possible through a disaster relief grant program.

Mossy Pond Park is one of the most disadvantaged communities in the county in terms of available services and number of lower income households.

To address some health needs of this community, Panhandle Rural Health and Primary Care will host a clinic one day per week at the Mossy Pond Park Public Library, run by Family Nurse Practitioner Stan Whittaker (MSN, ARNP).

If this clinic is successful, the program will expand to the Kinard Public Library in Kinard, Florida.

During FY2021-22, the percentage of total costs for the Community Engagement and Resources Program financed with federal money is 66%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the program is $73,494. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
