Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC)

The Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) is an international study of adults’ basic skills, including literacy and numeracy.

  • The interactive PIAAC Skills Map provides reliable county-level estimates of adult literacy and numeracy skills in all 50 states.
  • The PIAAC Florida Comparison Charts (pdf) contain estimates of literacy levels of each county in Florida and the state as a whole.

Florida Workforce Needs Study

The Florida Workforce Needs Study from the Florida Chamber of Commerce assess the skills that Floridians need to fill the demand for skilled workers in high-paying fields.

Migration Policy Institute

The Migration Policy Institute provides data and analysis on immigration and integration issues. The Florida Fact Sheet (pdf) includes statistics on Floridians who are professionally trained and credentialed but unable to obtain jobs in their field due to a need to improve their proficiency in English.
