JOB SUMMARY
Performs professional administrative work in the development and management of the marketing, fundraising and program development initiatives for Pinecrest Gardens.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Works under the general supervision of the Village Manager. The Pinecrest Gardens Director is responsible for the supervision of the Operations Manager, Horticulturist, Facility Manager, Program and Events Coordinator, Educational Program Coordinator and all other assigned personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Gardens providing leadership, guidance and direction for staff ensuring the mission and vision of the Gardens is carried out in accordance with the Village’s strategic plan.
• Works with the Communications Division to develop and implement an overall marketing and public relations strategy focused on maximizing exposure, growing audiences, identifying new market segments; increasing revenue and building brand awareness.
• Supervises calendar of events and programs and guides staff in the development and implementation of new programs, recreational activities, festivals, cultural and arts programming, performing arts and other cultural activities aimed at increasing interest and participation.
• Creates actionable fundraising plans and seeks opportunities for financial growth by soliciting major gifts; developing sponsorship packages; working with grant writers to develop concepts to secure historical, recreational educational, cultural and capital grants.
• Oversees the scheduling and booking of artists and supervises the volunteer curator for the Gardens Gallery.
• Maintains professional relationships with the Miami Dade Cultural Affairs, Historic Preservation and other arts and culture interest groups.
• Ensures the historical attributes in the Gardens are maintained or restored according to historic preservation standards and the botanical master plan.
• Oversees third-party contracts including the management company for the Farmer’s Market.
• Represents the Village in all cultural matters.
• Evaluates staff performance annually. Disciplines department employees for violation of Village or Department Policies and Procedures Manual.
• Recommends hiring, firing, promotional decisions and other employee status changes to the Village Manager.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field such as recreation and leisure services, hospitality and tourism management, business administration, public administration, marketing or other closely related field plus five (5) years of demonstrated experience in a senior/executive level management position involved with fundraising, program development and/or marketing preferably in parks or gardens, theme parks or hospitality industry. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Master’s Degree preferred. Supervisory experience is highly desired.

Additional Qualifications:
• Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel.
• Must possess excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.
• Must maintain high ethical, honesty and moral standards.
• Must be prepared and available to work during a hurricane in the Village’s EOC.
• Must be fluent in the English language. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
• Must be a non-smoker.
• Applicants must complete all requirements established by the Village of Pinecrest for employment. This may include, but not limited to, a written examination, typing test, psychological screening to determine suitability for position, polygraph examination, comprehensive background investigation, and a job-related medical examination including a drug/alcohol screening test.
• The minimum qualifications may be waived by the Village Manager.

• Ability to balance the interests of several groups with interest in the botanical aspects of the Gardens and the cultural programs in the open-air theater and the children’s area.
• Ability to train and supervise others.
• Skill and ability to effectively work with different segments and age groups of the community.
• Skill in planning, organization and implementation of the overall program.
• Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
• Ability to multi-task and maintain a high level of organization.
• Ability to prioritize duties and meet department goals and deadlines.
• Ability to effectively work independently, exercise discretion and independent judgment and maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the execution of duties.
• Ability to get along with others and work effectively and courteously with fellow workers, officials, other agencies and the public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically light and performed in an office environment and outdoor garden setting.
